Welcome from the President
In 1988, it wasn’t "cool"
to do urban missions. When people thought of short-term
missions, they saw the mission field as out there in places
that required airline tickets and interpreters. They thought
of laying cinderblock and digging trenches, worshipping
in the local church, but developing and managing their own projects.
CSM had a little different view. Still does.
We think being part of the exciting things God is doing
in key North American cities through existing local ministries
is the way to go. Through these partnerships, we attempt
to live out Jesus' call to feed the hungry, clothe the stranger,
visit the sick, and reach out to the prisoner. Specifically,
we focus on serving the men, women, and children who reside
in North America’s urban centers (cf. Matthew 25:31-40).
CSM has a very clear mission: to provide
students and adults with an effective urban ministry experience
that transforms lives, influences local churches and honors Christ.
There are a few advantages to how we do things:
- You can serve in the world’s
largest mission field - right here at home
- You’ll build the Church, not just
buildings
- You won’t be a tourist on a missions
sight-seeing tour
- Your "projects" will be working with
people
- You’ll go way past a cross-cultural
experience
- You’ll do ministry, not worry about
logistics
- You won’t leave the experience in a
scrapbook
