Megan Breed first served with CSM her freshman year of High School. As a young teen, she headed into the heart of Houston and had one of the most impactful experiences of her life. The ministry sites CSM partnered her group with provided many “firsts” for Megan – first time serving outside of her own community, first time talking to a homeless person and the first time she began wondering if she was called to a life of service. Although she was quiet, she was really able to process the experience and she knew God was calling her to the mission field of the city.

After several trips throughout High School, an opportunity arose for Megan to delve deeper into urban ministry through CSM’s City Host position. For a whole summer, Megan led and guided missions groups through their experience in the city. Though she began her Hosting experience with a little hesitation – it quickly faded and she had the best time of her life.

Megan allowed that summer experience to overflow into the following year as well. As she finished up her last summer hosting, she writes, “I hope that the amazing lessons, memories and relationships of this summer don't lessen. If I'm still crying months from now that would be ok. It would be a tragedy for me if I allowed Houston to fade away.” Megan then headed into her senior year at Baylor University.

After graduating, a full-time position with CSM Houston opened up. The timing was right and the position was perfect – Megan continued on her journey and became the Associate City Director.

Her time with CSM has shown Megan one thing very clearly – that the concept of CSM works. Serving on a short-term mission trip is a great first step in deciphering where God calls you to serve Him. Then, as a City Host, CSM provides a great opportunity for young adults to get a more in-depth urban ministry experience. Finally, as a full-time employee, Megan is able to fully commit herself to the community she loves and shares with those that serve with CSM in Houston.
