| Philadelphia Summer Staff Team 2005 |
The whole Philly team, top from left to right: co-director
Kelly Massey, co-director Justin Perry; second row: Kenny Hiser, Katy Oliver;
third row: Kelly Cooper, Jason Porterfield; front: Eric Bridgeford, Sara Warr. |
Kelly Cooper - Kelly Cooper
is from Cooperstown, Pennsylvania, a rural town about an hour south of Erie.
She is a junior at Messiah College (Grantham, PA) majoring in mathematics
with teaching certification. In 2001, she went on a mission trip to Russia,
where she worked with local orphanages and hospitals. She also has participated
in short term opportunities in Camden, NJ, Harrisburg and Philadelphia,
PA (once with CSM). She volunteers with urban middle school students and
is actively involved in many other service opportunities at Messiah. She
loves to dance and play the piano (not at the same time), corny jokes, the
Mighty Ducks movies (1, 2, and 3) and loves to play in the rain. God has
put a passion in her heart for the city, especially Philadelphia. "When
I came to CSM on a trip last fall, I was amazed by the many ministries in
the city. During my summer with CSM, I look forward to meeting teenagers
from all over the country, serving those around me, and allowing God to
use us to impact others for His kingdom." |
Katherine Oliver "Katy
O" - Katy is a recent graduate of Messiah College (Grantham, PA), where
she majored in Communications. Her travels include Central America, Ireland
and Northern Ireland with mission teams-working with youth and young children.
Her first outreach trip was to Philadelphia, where she fell in love with
the city. After a trip to CSM Philly with her college group, she realized
the Lord had answered her prayer to allow her to return to the city to serve.
Katy's ministry experience extends from opportunities to work with kids
and youth at summer camps, after-school programs, Bible studies and outreach
ministries as well as dancing with Acclamation Dance ministry, volunteering
with Caring Pregnancy Center and many other missions in Harrisburg, PA.
Although a southern girl from a smaller town, she loves the city and feels
at home there. "I wanted to work at CSM-Philadelphia because I care
deeply about the future of the people living in Philly. My goal for working
with CSM is to make a positive impact in Philly and continue learning from
the people who call it home." |
Jason Porterfield - Jason
comes from near the infamous Dillsburg, PA (home of the New Year's Eve Pickle
Drop). He just graduated from Messiah College with a degree in Youth Ministry
and is preparing for mission work in South East Asia. While in college, Jason
enjoyed setting up mission trips for the school and serving with a local
youth ministry. He enjoys playing guitar and reading and is determined to
discover what sound a giraffe makes. "I pray that this summer God will
embolden the youth who come to CSM to spread a passion for God in all they
do." |
Kenny Hiser - Kenny is from
Slippery Rock, PA and is a sophomore at Penn State, University Park. He
is looking at a major in Recreation, Park and Tourism Management with minors
in Religious Studies and Human Development & Family Studies. The last
three summers he has worked at Jumonville, a Christian summer camp in Uniontown,
PA, where he was a counselor, adventure facilitator, cameraman, and dishwasher.
He loves music, the outdoors, good conversations, having fun and helping
others. "This summer I hope to grow in my relationship with Christ
while serving others. I'm excited to step out of my bubble and experience
God's love in the city." |
Sara Warr - Sara is from
Puyallup, Washington and is a senior Nursing and Religion major at Whitworth
College in Spokane, WA. During high school and college she went on several
mission trips, three of which were with CSM to San Francisco (twice) and
Los Angeles. She loves working with youth groups, especially because of
the students' energy and enthusiasm. She has ministered as a junior high
youth leader and has also led Bible studies and youth events like backpacking
and rafting trips. In her free time, Sara likes backpacking and the outdoors,
also reading and hanging out with friends. Her favorite food is corn and
she's a vegetarian. "CSM really taught me what it means to love people
the way Jesus did and I am really excited that the students will have the
opportunity to be exposed to compassion and love in the inner city and I
hope to encourage them through that experience." |
Erica Bridgeford -
Erica is originally a Montana girl but currently lives in Spokane, Washington
where she is a fifth year student at Whitworth College. Although her nursing
major absorbs much of her time, she finds refreshment by retreating to her
lake cabin and pursuing her goal of competing in a triathlon. Her High School
experiences on mission trips to Kansas City, Missouri and Denver, Colorado
opened her eyes to reveal a calling to serve the Lord in the city. For the
past four years, Erica has volunteered with a ministry that serves homeless
youth who are under age twenty-two. "I am grateful for all that the
Lord has shown me and I am excited to see what new things are in store for
me in Philadelphia. It is my prayer that this summer will be full of opportunities
to meet God in the city and to see Him work in the lives of the groups I
will be blessed to encounter." |
