CSM wraps up service in Boston & Detroit

Two of the most important things we ask of groups when they come to serve with CSM is to be flexible and open. Time and time again,  we have seen schedules not work out in the ways that we hoped. Plans fall through and we are left with only our wits and the hope that God will work it out.  In those times of uncertainty, God has shown up in new, unexpected, and exciting ways! Going into 2018, CSM as a whole had to do exactly what we have asked of our groups--to be flexible with changes and open to where God is leading.

Earlier this year, CSM leadership had to be really open and willing to listen to the Lord's voice as we sought and continue to seek to steward this ministry well. After much prayer and wrestling, we have had to make the difficult decision to close two of our city sites at the end of their summer seasons.  By the end of August, both CSM Boston and CSM Detroit will be closing. This decision followed many hard conversations and prayers as we asked God where He was leading our ministry in the coming years. As a staff, it is hard to see those 7 years of service in Boston and 5 in Detroit come to an end. But we know and trust that God is only preparing the way for more opportunities ahead.

As we grieve these closings, we also want to rejoice and celebrate what God has done in and through us over the years as we have served in these two communities. We are grateful to have partnered with so many amazing organizations in both cities that continue to make an impact in their communities each day. To those organizations we want to say: Thank you so much for allowing us to come alongside you, to learn from you, and to be encouraged and strengthened by you. Our hope is that our partnership has been as much of a blessing for you as it has been for our staff and groups who have come through your doors. Thank you for welcoming us with open arms into the beautiful ministry you do day in and day out. We are humbled to be able to call you friends.

To all of the staff that have  served with us: We are grateful for you. Whether you served a month or all 5 or 7 years, we are so honored to have walked with you through your life journey and your adventures serving in Boston or Detroit. Thank you for giving of yourselves to this ministry and to our partners in each of these cities. Thank you for following the leading of the Spirit to bloom where you were planted.

To our groups who have served in Boston and Detroit, whether once or annually: Thank you for loving on our cities and our staff so well. We are thankful that we got to be a small part of your discipleship story and we pray that you continue to walk alongside the poor and marginalized in your own hometowns.

While this is a sad announcement for us, we honor all that God has done during our time in Boston and Detroit. We are eternally grateful that He allowed us to be Kingdom Builders during our tenure in each city. Above all, we are thankful that we did not bring God to either of these cities; rather, He has always been and will continue to be there, with or without us. For He alone is our hope and stay.
